Becoming a Morning Person

No no no. This is the most unnatural of posts for me to write. Anyone who knows me, even my Postman, knows that I am not a morning person. I love to sleep in, I love lounging in bed in a sleepy haze scrolling through Instagram. In fact, I am in PJs more than real clothes some weekends. So how did this happen to me?!

1. Have a Reason
There is no reason other than getting my training in for me to wake up at 5.30am. I know exactly why I am doing it. I have a purpose to be up and out. If you are a bit wishy washy about your purpose, just don't bother. Have a clear reason in your mind; why am I doing this? how is it helping me get to where I want to be?

2. Goodbye Snooze and Hello Movement
The snooze button is no more. I have an alarm set and when it goes off, I am up. I'm up because I leave my phone on the other side of my bedroom so I physically have to get up to turn it off. I hate the rude awakening but until this feels more natural, it's what I'm sticking with.

3. Water... for Face and Body
Once I'm up it's straight to the bathroom where I brush my teeth and splash my face with some water. If this doesn't wake you up, I don't know what will. I also try and drink at leat 1 glass of water before I go as my last glass was around 8 hours earlier before I went to bed.

3. The Night Before
I've been trying to be on my phone less before I go to sleep. I've turned down the brightness of the screen and I have been trying to put it away about 30 mins before I actually get into bed. I leave out things like my heart rate monitor, Garmin, gym card so I'm not scrambling around in the morning. Having it all to hand makes getting out the door much easier.

4. Power Nap
I commute for around an hour in the morning and evening. Provided I can get a seat, this is the perfect time for a power nap. I feel so much better after a bit of shut eye and it breaks up the day quite nicely too. A nap at work would be the ultimate but I'm not sure I can get away with that one!
